What you describe should work already..

From your screenshot, it looks like you are using hyper simple theme. if so, then that is your problem. see here:

Solutions would be to either 1. modify the hyper simple graphics so that the pre-action fold checkbox is a different color than the Fold button or 2. use a different table theme
