I just downloaded the software and set it up for a site and it told me the trial was already expired.

SAT doesn't capture any identifying information. Instead it encodes your machine information into the Machine ID, and on rare occasions, the encoding might match the same as another user's Machine ID. So that's likely what happened. Its not a big issue
